Lady Mustangs Control Westover

Gordie MacKenzie
On Parents Weekend, the Lady Mustangs took on Class C opponent Westover. Having played Westover at the beginning of the season during a playday, the team knew we wanted to get on the scoreboard early and not allow Westover to make a game of it. The strategy made sense but Westover was not going to go along with our game plan. While Millbrook possessed the ball for most of the first half, Westover's midfield was able to get a ball behind the Mustang's backline and #11 found herself all alone with Millbrook's keeper, Elise Almgren '20. Unlike the previous game, Almgren was unable to come up with the save, and Westover would get on the scoreboard first.  The lead was shortlived as Suwaibatu Mohammed '19 collected a loose ball in the box and slammed the ball into the back of the net 3 minutes later; Bailey Tymeson '20 would net the go ahead goal (assited by Mohammed) with 4 minutes remaining in the half to bring the 1st half to a close.

Millbrook would begin the 2nd half as it did during the 1st - possessing and moving the ball with 1-2 touch play. It wouldn't be long before Millbrook would strike again, again - Lizzy Chamberlin '19 would score her first goal of the season off of a corner served by Anni Elwell '18; Chamerblin would net a second goal 11 minutes later. Two minutes later, Helene Apollon '19 followed-up a rebound and scored her first of the season; 1 minute later, Gabby Sartori '18 would score her first of the season as she bent the ball like Beckham from a corner to the back upper corner of the goal. Almgren would only see one more shot since the early tally.

Next up, Cheshire Academy.
