Mustangs Dethrone King

Gordie MacKenzie
On a warm Saturday afternoon, the Lady Mustangs played host to Class C rival, The King School.  Having won their last two games (shoutouts), Millbrook looked to extend their winning streak. From the opening kick-off, Millbrook possessed the ball for most of the game. The girls did well to control the ball and work on their combination passing.  King's backline did well early on to turn away the Mustangs scoring chances, but 9 minutes into the game, Bailey Tymeson '20 received a throughball from Adelaide Armah '19 who got behind King's defense to knotch her first goal of the season, and what would prove to be the game winner. Four minutes later, Suwaibatu Mohammed '19 would get on the score board with her first of the day, assisted by Lizzy Carter '18; Mohammed would net two more for her second hat-trick of the season.  Newcomer, Jalia Musah '21 would closeout the scoring midway through the 2nd half.

Netminder, Elise Almgren '20, saw 3 shots for the day, and recorded her 2nd career shutout for the young season.  All players saw playing time which was good to see.  Head coach MacKenzie would like to note the particular play of the backline of Carter, Armah, Emily Cummings '18 and Hannah Cavanaugh '18 who did a terrific job of moving the ball from one side of the field to the other.  In addition, Anni Elwell '18 showed improvement after coming off a recent ankle injury as she helped transition the ball through the middle third, and tested King's keeper with a couple of shots from outside of the 18.

Next up, Class C perennial powerhouse, St. Lukes on Wednesday.
