Zooie of the Week - Jack Bloom '20

Jack Bloom '20 is our Zooie of the Week for his care of Betty the bobcat. Not only has he done an excellent job looking after Betty, but he has also gone above and beyond his responsibilities by volunteering to substitute for other Zooies. He is an exemplary team player, and communicates very well with the zoo staff. And for his spring sport, Jack is on our Zoo Squad, spending even more time working at the zoo.

As a III former, Jack was looking forward to the zoo as part of his community service rotation. “I was excited for the opportunity,” says Jack. “I mean, there is literally no other high school where I would have been able to do this.” However, Jack was nervous at first, and credits Millbrook’s Community Service program with enabling him to work outside of his comfort zone and allowing him to realize how much he loves working with animals. “I don’t think I would have taken the initiative to do this on my own, but I am so glad that I was able to through community service,” he says.

Jack loves working with Betty, but says that if he continues to work at the zoo that he would, “love the opportunity to work with something more cuddly…like the red pandas, perhaps!”

Outside of the zoo Jack maintains a busy schedule, as he participates in Millbrook’s Literacy Connections program and is also active in the performing arts. In a short time he has already made great contributions to our community both in and outside of the zoo, and we look forward to his continued success. Well done, Jack!
