Welcome!

Did you know the Trevor-Lovejoy Zoo is the only AZA-accredited zoo in the U.S. located at a high school?

Founded in 1936 at Millbrook School in New York, it was created by Frank Trevor, the school’s first biology teacher, who was passionate about sharing his love of wildlife—especially with children.

In 2025, the zoo was renamed to honor one of Trevor’s former students, Dr. Tom Lovejoy, Millbrook Class of 1959. Known as “the Planet Doctor,” Tom was a pioneering conservation biologist who championed biodiversity, protected the Amazon, and shaped global environmental policy. Though he arrived at Millbrook uninterested in biology, Frank Trevor’s influence sparked Tom’s lifelong mission to protect the planet and inspire future environmental stewards.

Today, the Trevor-Lovejoy Zoo reflects Millbrook’s commitment
to live responsibly by educating its students and visitors about conservation, wildlife, and the natural world.

There are many other interesting facts about the Trevor-Lovejoy Zoo:
  • It houses more than 170 exotic and indigenous animals
  • 70 different species are represented
  • It is home to 11 endangered species
  • Its facilities extended over 6 acres
