CES - Aria '18

Outdoor Education
As a Founder’s Prize winner, Aria chose to attend a two-week Outward Bound program in Colorado during the summer of 2017. She returned from her trip inspired to help her peers become more connected with nature and so began to design her CES project with the goal of getting her peers outside on Millbrook’s 800-acre campus and within the beauty of the Hudson Valley. Her detailed proposal for a formal Outdoors Club at Millbrook included results from a community survey, plans for on and off-campus excursions, and a curriculum for developing outdoor, leadership, and communication skills. Aria’s CES was a culmination of her own experience and a guide for place-based learning, inspiring other students to head outdoors to learn about their environment, themselves, and each other.
