Golden Additions

Trevor Zoo staff is very excited to have a new addition – a breeding pair of golden lion tamarins, an endangered species, according to the IUCN Red List for Threatened Species.
This is the first time the zoo has housed a breeding pair since the 1980’s. The tamarins, Reba and William, came from separate institutions over the summer. Reba came from BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo in Louisiana, while William came from the Santa Ana Zoo in California. They were first introduced in August and quickly investigated one another. Everything went well and they are now a bonded pair!

On these sunny autumn days, they can be seen outside searching for insects. You may need to look closely to find them, as their golden coats blend in with the changing leaves. Keep your fingers crossed that we will have our first golden lion tamarin births this spring!
