Bear (Sculpture) Installed at Trevor Zoo

On May 6, 2004 the on loan sculpture featured in this story was returned to its owner, artist Peter Busby.

A black bear is the most recent acquisition at the Trevor Zoo—a black bear sculpture, that is. Thanks to Cornwall, Connecticut artist, Peter Busby, this work of art, apropos to its setting, is on indefinite loan to the Zoo. It is a handsome and portly beast, sculpted entirely of steel rods bent into the broad curves of a massive bear. At casual glance it seems to be quietly padding along on all fours past the emus and the bobcat.

Busby is known for his sculpture of intricately woven metal rods that take the shape of grand animals. These include horses, whale tails and a trio of 16-foot herons recently installed on a public golf course. Busby has commissioned works on display in Denmark, New England, Texas, Ohio and California and Millbrook is indeed honored to have “captured” one of his masterpieces for our zoo.
