So Fetch: Mean Girls at Millbrook

Production for Mean Girls is in full swing in the Chelsea Morrison Theater. More than a mere fish-out-of-water story, the musical is hilarious and heartfelt, based on the book by Tina Fey. Eliza Withers-Clarke ’23 portrays teenager Cady Heron as she learns to navigate life at a midwestern high school very different from her earlier life in Kenya, where she was homeschooled by her research scientist parents.

An antidote to the dark and cold of winter, the musical is among the first signs of spring on campus. Holbrook is hopping with students learning lines, songs, and choreography in the timeless tradition of getting the show ready to roll. Technical director Teddy Wecker, first-year Millbrook math teacher, is working closely with students to build sets. Dance instructor Zoe Thomas is working closely with the cast to bring the dynamic show to life.

The ensemble cast is stacked with Millbrook theater veterans and talented newcomers. For Henry Stafford ’23, his role as Damian is “the perfect way to go out.” Henry has participated in all eight productions staged in his four years. “There is no experience like being on the stage,” said Henry. “When I started here, I would just say the lines, but now I add more of my own character and interpretation to the role,” he said. “An amazing thing about Millbrook theater is that I feel like I am actually supported by the entire community. When I have their attention, I really have their attention.”

Margaux Champon ’23 plays Regina, the meanest of the Mean Girls. After leading roles in Mamma Mia and She Kills Monsters, Margaux has proven herself in challenging roles. “I have always enjoyed stepping out of my body and embodying another person for a few hours, it is refreshing,” said Margaux, “Although I don't necessarily resonate with her, Regina is incredibly funny and there is never a dull moment in rehearsal,” she added.

Mean Girls
plays February 23-25 at 8 p.m. in the Chelsea Morrison Theater.
