Shakur Mohammed '21 Earns Top Division I Honors

It's no surprise that Shakur (Shak) Mohammed '21 had a phenomenal season on the field for a top-end Division I program, Duke's men's soccer team. His season was so impressive, in fact, that Shak was named the ACC Freshman of the Year following a vote of the league's 12 head coaches.

Shak tallied a total of three goals and six assists in his first season, and his total assists are the most by a Duke freshman since 2016. He also earned a spot on the All-ACC second team, one of only two freshmen to make an All-ACC team this season.

Shak helped his team in a semi-final upset against No. 2 Clemson on November 10, and he played a total of 88 minutes in their bid for the championship against Notre Dame on Sunday, November 14. While the outcome was not what they hoped for, the outlook for Duke men's soccer is bright.

Most importantly, Shak has shined as bright as we knew he would! We're incredibly proud that Shak will always be a Millbrook Mustang, even when he's wearing royal blue! Surely, he will be wearing other colors as he heads down the road towards professional soccer. We'll be following his journey and cheering loudly!
