Arts Field Trips Ride Again!

Millbrook student artists were able to hit the road again this year for arts field trips. Groups visited the Metropolitan Museum in New York City, The School in Kinderhook and attended Broadway shows Ain’t Too Proud To Beg and The Play That Goes Wrong.

Photography and drawing and painting classes visited The School in Kinderhook, a 30,000 square foot gallery space in a converted school building an hour north of campus. Arts instructors Mollie Flannery and Theo Coulombe created assignments tailored to their visit that included concentrations on portraiture, light, and form. The visit will inform future classwork and projects. Ceramics instructor Tyler Gundrum toured the world-famous Met with his group.

Many of the Millbrook Singers attended Ain’t Too Proud To Beg, a Broadway musical about Motown hitmakers The Temptations. The cast of the Millbrook fall play, The One-Act Play That Goes Wrong, were joined by others to see The Play That Goes Wrong, after which they participated in a post-show Q&A with the cast and crew. “It was remarkable,” said director Elaine Lifter, “a master class in physical comedy, timing, and the dedication and commitment it takes to be a part of any show. They were so generous with our students, and we were very grateful for the time we had with them.”

Arts field trips connect working student artists with immersive all-day experiences available thanks to Millbrook’s arts-rich location and strong connections maintained by Holbrook faculty.
