Biology: Marsh to Lab

Even as fall descends upon the Hudson Valley, life abounds in the biology lab of Gordie MacKenzie ’79. The big aquarium in MASC has been a temporary home to damselfly and dragonfly nymphs, leeches, fish, snails, crayfish, and many plant species. Students are identifying and sketching finds gathered from their marsh mucking excursions earlier in the month.

Peering through microscopes and putting pencil to paper to record the minute details of some of the tiny organisms with whom we share Millbrook’s 800 acres of woods and wetlands is a great way to connect macro and micro while cultivating an appreciation of the natural world.
