Round two knockout

The Saturday rematch at Canterbury today was successful for the favored contender Mustangs, who after dominating at home on Friday, kept the peddle to the metal and completed the series sweep 5-2.

Singles started first under beautiful skies and with high hopes of a repeat.  3 matches ended quickly with decisive scores; Dan - 0 and 2, Nick - 1 and 0, Charlie - 1 and 0, giving the visiting team a 3-0 lead.  Drew had another crazy competitive match at #3 against the same opponent who he just beat barely yesterday. This time however, after winning the first set 6-4, he dropped the second set 7-5. The set seemed secure after going up 8-4 in the super tie breaker to 10 but the feisty Saint competitor stormed back and took the lead at 10-9 with match point on his racquet. Deery was having none of it however and wasn't done yet. Ripping off an ace and a forehand winner, he clinched the set at 12-10, giving the Mustangs the match win. Matt had an equally challenging contest and lost the first 6-4, won the second in a tiebreak 7-6, but succumbed in the third 10-7.  Luke endured the longest match of the day at about an hour and a half, winning the first 6-3, going down 5-1 and clawing back to win in a tie breaker in the second 7-6.
It was another impressive effort by the team and bodes well for our chances vs Berkshire on Friday at home.
