Millbrook Welcomes Magnet Theater
Millbrook welcomed improvisation instructors and performers Elana Fishbein, Nick Kanellis, and Chris Bell from New York City's Magnet Theater to campus on January 9th.
These professional actors facilitated multiple workshops throughout the day for students and faculty alike to teach the art of improv, culminating their visit with a special performance in the Chelsea Morrison Theater.
"The skills gained from improv are applicable beyond the performing arts," said Ms. Lifter, in reference to both Mr. Raciti and Ms. Martin inviting Millbrook's Magnet Theater guests to work with their respective programming and science classes on improving their idea-sharing skills.
"Improv is a dynamic, experiential learning tool for expanding creativity, strengthening public speaking skills, building leadership ability, and more," said Director of Theater Elaine Lifter. "These invaluable skills are important both on and off the stage."

The visit concluded with a high-energy performance in the Chelsea Morrison Theater, which was attended by over 100 students and included games presented by the professional company and ample audience participation.
Magnet Theater was brought to Millbrook through the generosity of the John Berkey Class of 1991 Visiting Artists series, which was created with the goal of bringing more artists to campus.

"Magnet Theater really brought a fun and rewarding program to our campus," said Ms. Lifter who has now turned her attention to helping students apply their skills in preparation for the upcoming spring musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, which will run from February 27-29.
