Mustangs Triumph Over Cheshire Academy 45-40

Millbrook earned a tightly contested win over a well-coached Class B opponent in Cheshire Academy on Saturday. On a day where shots were not falling, the Mustangs used their aggressive on-ball defense and disciplined off-ball habits to generate 27 turnovers. On the offensive end, Millbrook was disciplined with the basketball, handling Cheshire's pressure, and committing only 10 turnovers of their own. After leading by 7 at the half, Cheshire went on their run and found themselves up by 2  in the middle of the 4th quarter. The Mustangs kept their cool, stuck to their gameplan and finished strong. With the score tied at 40 to 40 with 2 minutes left, Kimora Jenkins used her active hands to tip a basketball high in the air toward the ceiling at Cheshire.  With players all positioning themselves to secure the basketball, Kate Peek jumped up in the air and tapped the ball out toward half-court, where Kimora Jenkins caught the ball in stride and layed the ball in for a 42-40 lead. From there, the Mustangs used defensive stops and went 3 for 4 from the free-throw line to finalize the basketball game.  It was a good first win for the Mustangs who will now turn their attention to this week's exams, followed their 4 game Holiday tournament at Dexter Southfield next weekend.

  • Kimora Jenkins led the Mustang in scoring with 30 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals
  • Khya Jenkins played strong basketball and finished with 12 points (60 % shooting), 12 rebounds, and 4 steals
  • Evelynn Najork did a little bit of everything playing excellent defense, hauling down 5 rebounds, and many 'hockey-assists'
