Canterbury Invitational: New runners find their racing legs

Coach Havard
The Millbrook girls team took on the heat and a competitive field  of nearly 100 runners to finish strong at yesterday's Canterbury Invitational Division II race
Millbrook Girls Cross Country, captained by Elizabeth Finch '21 and Anna Wilson '21, are 7-strong this year, and include new runners to Millbrook and to the sport generally. All seven competed on Saturday with finishing times to be proud of and to build upon.  First in for Millbrook was Lizzie Finch in 30th place, in a time of 25:18, with even miles and a strong final sprint, followed by Hannah Coon '23 in 37th and Anna Wilson in 66th. Lauren Jones '21, Eliza Withers-Clarke '23, Tracy He '22, and Anna Metzger '23 all pushed through the 80-degree heat to finish solidly.  We'll build on these performances as we get ready to host a girls' invitational on our home course next weekend.

Both girls' and boys' Division II turned out to be the big story at Canterbury. Despite the heat, Sydney Masciarelli of Marianapolos won the DII girls race in 17:07, eclipsing the field as well as the best DI times by over 3 minutes and 1:33 respectively.  Ethan Puc of Chase Collegiate took the DII boys race in 16:06, also besting the DI finishers. It was an impressive day of running!
