Art Students Participate in Portfolio Day

Art students attended Portfolio Day at the FDR Library in Hyde Park, NY on Friday, November 3rd, and during the event students were able to meet with over 40 colleges and universities, including Boston University, Rhode Island School of Design, and Tufts University, among others.

“This was a great opportunity for students to get feedback from art schools and universities on their portfolios and to discuss their work with school representatives,” said Art Department Chair Sarah MacWright.

The event was presented by the Art Institute of Mill Street Loft, an advanced art portfolio program that has been supporting high school students in receiving college scholarships since 1996. The program is completely run by professional artists and connects students with professionals and educators through programs and events like Portfolio Day.

More than 80 percent of all Millbrook students participate in arts courses each semester – from acting to art history, choreography to digital photography, playwriting to instrumental ensemble. Because of Millbrook’s convenient location in the Hudson Valley, classrooms extend outside of our buildings; not only throughout our natural campus, but also to surrounding areas like Hyde Park, Poughkeepsie, and New York City. For those students who wish to pursue the arts in college, being able to attend events like Portfolio Day is truly invaluable in helping them prepare for the college process and beyond.
