Students Receive National Merit and AP Awards

Congratulations to several Millbrook students, both current and alumni, who have been honored by either the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and/or the AP Program.
Congratulations to several Millbrook students, both current and alumni, who have been honored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation and/or the AP Program.

Begun in 1955, the National Merit Scholarship Program recognizes students who perform exceptionally well on the Preliminary SAT (PSAT). Approximately 1.4 million students take the PSAT every year, and of those students eventually 8,200 are named Merit Scholars and awarded $2500 scholarships. In September high-scorers who are below the level required to be named semi-finalists receive Letters of Commendation. These Commended Scholars become candidates for special scholarships sponsored by corporations and businesses.

We are very proud of the following Millbrook students who have been named Commended Scholars by the National Merit Award Corporation:
Joanna Ehrenreich ‘08
Lucia Von Reusner ‘08
Carter Sloan ‘08

In addition to the PSAT and SAT exams, many Millbrook students take AP (Advanced Placement) exams in one or more subject areas. The AP exams allow high school students the opportunity to earn college credit or advanced standing at most US universities or colleges.

The AP Program recognizes students who have “demonstrated college-level achievement through AP courses and exams” through annual AP Scholar Awards. This year, five Millbrook alumni and a current Millbrook senior were given AP Scholar Awards for achieving a grade of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams:

Marcello Dubaz ‘07
Lauren Van Camp ‘07
Sarah Bogdanovitch ‘07
Julia Heffernan ‘07
Ivonne Morales ‘07
Jin Soo Han ‘08

Additionally, one Millbrook senior, Lucia Von Reusner ’08, was named an AP Scholar with Honor. She had earned an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP exams she took, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of the AP exams.

Congratulations, again, to all of Millbrook's award winners!
