Theater Legends Visit Mamma Mia!

The cast and crew of Mamma Mia!, Millbrook’s winter musical, welcomed special guests David and Jeanie Bean, featured dancers in the original Broadway presentation of West Side Story, and known locally as the proprietors of the Jeanie Bean Cafe in Clinton Corners. Along with over 700 theatrical performances of West Side Story, David Bean appeared in both the original 1961 film and had a cameo in the recent Steven Spielberg production. The Beans met while performing in the London production of West Side Story and have been married for over sixty years.

The cast ran through several numbers and received helpful notes and encouragement from the veteran performers before posing for a cast photo. David and Jeanie emphasized the importance of maintaining the pulse of a number as a way of keeping the company together and the scene moving forward. After watching the cast work through “Voulez-Vous,” in the Chelsea Morrison Theater, David and Jeanie took to the stage themselves to bring their notes to life.

Mamma Mia! will open on February 24 and features an ensemble cast dancing and singing the hit Broadway musical featuring the songs of Swedish supergroup ABBA.
