Alumni Weekend 2014: Sharing Memories and Creating New Ones

All alumni were invited to participate in reunion festivities and celebrate special milestones during Alumni Weekend 2014.
On June 6th and 7th Millbrook alumni reconnected and enjoyed golf, lunch, dinner, music and dancing, and terrific company. Meanwhile, they reminisced about Millbrook as they remembered it. They toured the latest state-of-the-art facilities on campus like the new Math and Science Center, the newly renovated Barn, and the nearly completed new dormitory. Despite all the changes and upgrades, Millbrook's quintessential charm still resonated for all in attendance.

During the weekend alumni, faculty, family, and friends also gathered to celebrate and remember the life of Coach Mike Fuller. From 2001-2004 Coach Fuller made his home with Gina, Zack, and Maddie Fuller at Millbrook. He shared his passion for the sport of lacrosse and his clear ideas on sportsmanship, character, and the qualities necessary to become champions with his teams. His players knew that he demanded their best, and at a memorial luncheon they acknowledged that this demand made them better players and people. Despite the somber occasion, spirits were high and many great, and often times humorous, stories were shared. After the memorial luncheon Coach Fuller’s students took to the lacrosse field for an honorary friendly competition.

The community then gathered in the Trevor Zoo Education Building to witness the ribbon cutting ceremony at the new Climate Change exhibit. Jono ’65 and Jane Meigs explained the process of assembling the exhibit, demonstrated the centerpiece of the exhibit (a fully interactive and customizable iGlobe), and encouraged the audience to approach the complex issue of climate change with an open mind. Headmaster Drew Casertano then delivered closing remarks and announced the Board of Trustees’ unanimous decision to honor the Megis’ countless contributions to the Trevor Zoo and Millbrook School by re-naming the Education Building the Meigs Education Center at the Trevor Zoo. In the afternoon, the traditional alumni parade led the entire community into the Flagler Memorial Chapel. Robert Anthony '65, assistant to the headmaster for external affairs, welcomed everyone to the alumni assembly and presented awards to very deserving recipients. The Alumni Achievement Award was presented to Sumaya Abu-Haidar ’89; Erin Stuckey ’00 earned the Edward Pulling Community Service Award; and Bill Crossman '74 earned a standing ovation when he accepted the Millbrook Medal. After congratulating each award winner, Headmaster Drew Casertano delivered the State of the School address that updated alumni on the wonderful projects just completed on campus, and painted a picture of the future at Millbrook.
