Our mission of environmental stewardship has led us to boldly commit to reaching carbon neutrality by 2020.
Millbrook's Solar Field
Size: 7 acres
Number of panels: 5,852
Power generation: 2.2 million kWh/year
What do we mean when we use the term carbon neutrality? Carbon neutrality is defined as having no net greenhouse emissions, and is achieved by reducing our own greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible and then offsetting any of our remaining emissions by contributing to a guaranteed reduction of emissions elsewhere.
It is this mission and commitment to carbon neutrality that led to the construction of our solar photovoltaic power field. This solar field now powers 100% of our campus electricity and has lowered our greenhouse gas emissions by 30%. This is a HUGE step towards carbon neutrality.
The solar field is also integrated into our curriculum. Our faculty is developing ways to get our students involved in learning about conservation and solar power through hands on projects at the solar field.
