A Powerful Earth Day for Millbrook

Millbrook’s annual Earth Day celebration featured new activities at the solar field.

Every day is like Earth Day at Millbrook where students, faculty, and staff recycle and maintain environmentally friendly habits year round. However, Earth Day at Millbrook is special in that the entire community embraces our core value of environmental stewardship of the natural world all at once.

The community split up into groups and picked up trash across our campus and along route 44, worked in our community garden, processed recyclables, and engaged in stream cleanup to help maintain our wetland buffer zone. Throughout this comprehensive effort to clean up, Millbrook collects and properly disposes of nearly a metric ton of trash and recyclables from the surrounding area.

Our newly constructed solar field, which provides for 100% of Millbrook’s electrical needs, was the perfect location for the culmination of Earth Day activities. As students returned from their roadside cleanup routes they gathered at the solar field to see and learn more about the facility, and discussed what can be done to continue Millbrook’s commitment to environmental stewardship. The groups of students wrote down numerous things that everyone in the community could do to make Millbrook more environmentally friendly.
