Spotlight On Global Service: The Courage to Reach Out and Learn

Millbrook’s first forum of the year will focus on the power of cross-cultural relationships and the importance of educational access.
The forum will feature experiences from the recent global service trips to India and Ghana made by Millbrook students and faculty. Traveling across the globe to connect directly with children in need, they embodied the Millbrook School motto, “Non Sibi Sed Cunctis” (not for oneself but for all).

Working hands on with multiple organizations supporting better lives for children such as Hearts of the Fathers Outreach and the Deep Griha Society, students had the opportunity to both teach and learn from children in the rural villages and slums of India and Ghana.

With leadership from Mary McCartney ’15, the forum will also feature the story of a Nepalese girl, Suma. Suma’s story is showcased in the award-winning film Girl Rising, a documentary Mary viewed and discussed during the Eleanor Roosevelt Leadership Conference that she attended last summer. Through the presenters’ images, music, and stories the community will witness the impact these experiences and relationships have had on their lives.
