Keepsafe Boxes Support Conservation of Endangered Species
Millbrook students and faculty have crafted beautiful boxes in support of the KeepSafe Project, which is dedicated to raising awareness of the plight of endangered species.
This endeavor is lead by Paola Bari, a local Hudson Valley artist, and is inspired by the work of Dr. Laurie Marker, founder of the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF). The KeepSafe Project emerged as Bari’s vision of joining local and remote forces to help save endangered species and their habitats around the world. Talented and accomplished artists, including many Millbrook students and Millbrook's Art Department Chair Bill Hardy, have decorated 100 6" square boxes that will be offered at a silent auction event on May 4, 2013.
Millbrook's Trevor Zoo will be hosting this special "Race for Survival" event and auction. Right now and through the end of April, the completed boxes are on display in shops and local businesses throughout the region, including Woodstock, Millbrook, Poughkeepsie, and Beacon. All of the boxes can also be viewed online at www.keepsafeproject.com, along with biographies of the participating artists. Online bidding opened as of April 1st and will continue until the silent auction begins on May 4th.
The KeepSafe event will be held from 4:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Millbrook School and will include a reception, refreshments, and a presentation and discussion session with Dr. Marker. Personal tours will be available of the Trevor Zoo, and during the reception, guests will have the opportunity to participate in the silent auction of the KeepSafe boxes. Net proceeds from this effort will be shared between the Cheetah Conservation Fund, the International Crane Foundation, and the Coastal Wildlife Refuge Society Red Wolf Recovery Project.
