Watch Live Video Feed of Six Red Wolf Pups

Born three weeks ago on May 2, 2012, our Red wolf pups are now frisky and playful. See them for yourself - watch our live video feed streaming from the Trevor Zoo.

Our Red wolf (Canis rufus) female, Luna, gave birth to seven pups. One pup was stillborn and two males and four females are doing well. All captive born Red wolves are potential release candidates to the wild, which means that we will limit our interaction with the pups to the minimum necessary for health checks and vaccinations. In other words we must let nature take its course. Fortunately, although Luna is a first time, mom she seems to be a natural!

If everything goes well over the next week or so, we will open the doors and allow Luna access to the exhibit and Shilo, the dad, access to the den and the pups. Luna will likely stay very close to and protective of the pups for the first month or two and then begin to ease up on her attentiveness.

The Red wolf is one of seven endangered species housed at the Trevor Zoo. If you would like to help support Red wolf conservation efforts or other endangered species efforts, please stop in to donate coins in the Conservation tree in the main Zoo Education Building and “vote” for your favorite.
