GV Hockey Shuts Out Gunnery & Keeps Ed Allen Cup

Girls varsity hockey earned a big win against Gunnery yesterday afternoon, shutting them out at home with a final score of 5-0. This is the second consecutive year that the Mustangs have won the Ed Allen Cup - a bronze trophy shaped like a baseball cap - and the fourth year that the team has competed against their longstanding rival, The Gunnery, in Ed Allen’s honor.

"The Ed Allen Cup started off with a back-and-forth first period," said Head Girls Varsity Hockey Coach Erica (Shapey) Freymann. "The Mustangs came out a bit nervous, but Catherine Champagne ’20 was an absolute brick wall in net." Champagne '20 took control of the game and rallied her teammates to bring their best energy for the second and third periods, resulting in the Mustangs taking a 2-0 lead with goals from Jeannie Wallner ’21 and Nikki Bessinger ’21. The Mustangs maintained offensive-zone possession throughout the third period, scoring three more goals by Georgia Franco ’21, Julia Zangre ’22, and Jeannie Wallner ’21, resulting in a final score of 5-0. "The team played with confidence, intensity, and pride; and for the second year in a row, the Ed Allen Cup will stay with Millbrook and find its place back on Cody Allen’s shelf," said Coach.

This much anticipated annual match-up elicits both excitement and emotion and we are proud of both teams for the conquest and character that they brought to the rink. GO MUSTANGS!
