An Eye-Opening, Daylong, Deep Dive into the College Process

Parents of Vth form students were invited to campus on Thursday, January 30th, to participate in Millbrook's annual College Counseling Program. This daylong event prepares Vth formers and their families for the college application process.

"We really begin to dive into the college process with our students during their Vth form year," says Director of College Counseling Shannon Vollmer. "Students receive their college counselor assignments, they meet in small groups, and they start to schedule individual meetings. It is such an exciting time in our office, and we look forward to inviting parents to join us in beginning this process and in learning about what to expect moving forward."

The event is busy and productive and includes workshops, Q&A with guest panelists, breakout sessions, and more. Millbrook welcomed the following expert panelists this year:
  • Sarah Butler, Associate Director of Admission, Sewanee: The University of the South
  • Grace Chapin James, Deputy Director of AdmissionsThe University of Chicago
  • Rod Jackson, Senior Assoc. Director of Undergraduate Admission/Director of Diversity Recruitment, Southern Methodist University
  • Jeremy Lowe, Associate Director of AdmissionsAmerican University
Panelists offered a wealth of information from a wide variety of school backgrounds.

At the conclusion of the event, Vth formers departed for the long weekend. "We look forward to building off of the momentum from the College Counseling Program event with our students upon their return from the short break," says Mrs. Vollmer.

And, they will waste no time, as the entire Vth form will embark on the annual Vth Form College Visit Day on February 10th, visiting UMass Amherst in the morning and Amherst College in the afternoon.
