150 miles to Benefit Friends in Need

On Wednesday, November 20th, Millbrook's boys and girls cross country teams hosted a Penny Run to benefit the Food of Life Pantry in Amenia, NY.

A rather long-standing tradition at Millbrook that had not been held for a few years, the teams decided to bring it back to raise awareness and funds for this food pantry that serves local families in Dutchess County. The Penny Run began on Pulling Circle at 7:55 a.m. and concluded by 4 p.m.  All students and faculty/staff were invited to walk or run during a free moment in their day, and everyone also had the option to sponsor a runner.

In a traditional Penny Run, participants bring cash and drop it in a collection bin every time they complete a lap around Pulling Circle. Some runners might make one lump donation, and others will collect monies from those who sponsored them with a dollar amount per lap. With well over 1,500 laps run, we hope to make a sizable donation once all money has been collected.

Over 60 students, adults, faculty children, and dogs ran more than 150 miles in all; both the boys basketball and ski/snowboarding teams came out to support. Congratulations go to our top runners: Hanji Xu and Jalia Musah both ran 7 miles, Charlie Weisberg and Lindsay Peterson ran 10-miles, and Hannah Coon ran 11 miles!

All donations will be collected and sent to the Food of Life Pantry by December 4th.
