A thrilling start to the season

John Siegenthaler
The boys’ varsity soccer team kicked off the 2019 season with a satisfying win over a scrappy, determined St. Luke’s side Saturday afternoon. It took Millbrook nearly a half hour to settle into some kind of rhythm before the scoring started. Strong play in the midfield by Mogul, Ethan Cott and Mohammed led to several scoring opportunities and 2 goals. St. Luke’s managed one in response and Ferreira had his apparent score called back. In the second half, the teams traded possession and goals, leading to a thrilling finish down the stretch. The Mustangs held their ground and kept their heads to prevail, winning by a goal. Twenty-three members of the squad saw time on the field. Stand-outs this afternoon included Ricker, who played superbly in the net in his first varsity game. Prockter and Southwick played well on the back line and Stark proved very versatile, playing in several spots during the course of the game. Mohammed was awarded the coaches’ game card as the match’s outstanding player.
