Millbrook Girls take 15th at Division III New England race

Coach Havard
Dorothy Walker finished in the top 20 in the race, iwith a new PR of 22:10. Elizabeth Finch and Lillie Marcos also had season-best races.
Wind and occasional snow squalls excepted, it was a great running day at Canterbury School, where we began and ended the 18-19 cross country racing season.  159 runners from 22 teams spanned across the entire baseball outfield at the starting line, aiming for the northeast corner of the track and the start of a several loop first mile.  Millbrook girls were running hard if a bit cautiously as they crossed Aspetuck Avenue into the fields, woods, and the long hill on which this race is often won or lost,   Walker, Finch, and Marcos had all picked up places by the time the crossed back to the school side for a hard-fought final stretch. Anna WIlson, who was with Marcos for the firsthalf of the race, fell back some but still finished hard.  Intent on making ithe top 20, Walker passed a runner to start the final lap around the lower field.  Another runner chased hard, but Dorothy held her off and finished the race in 20th place with a PR 22:10.  Elizabeth came in 48th, leaning out a Kingswood -Oxford runner in a PR 23:19. Marcos finished 79th in 24:32, a time more in line with her racing last season.  Congratulations to her on recovering well and aiming for this race all season!  Next in for Millbrook was Raphaella Pope, looking the best that she has all season, with an excellent sprint at the finish. Anna WIlson was a few racers behind Pope, and Pam Ngyuen came in signficantly under her best time as well.  Congratulations to the team on weathering some ups and downs this season, and for finishing in such a positive way.  We will miss our seniors Dorothy, Lillie, and Raph.  Watch for results of Dorothy's race at the All-star meet next weekend!
