Hotchkiss beats Millbrook; Walker surges with a PR on home course

Coach Havard
The Hotchkiss Bearcats came over to race Millbrook on our home course Saturday.  The teams battled cold, mud, and intermittent rain throughout, but runners emerged into sunshine with some hard-fought finishes.
Hotchkiss put up 16 runners against Millbrook's 5 at the start.  Muddy, leafy conditions slowed mile one, with the the first Hotchkiss runner coming through in 7:15.  Millbrook's number 1, Dorothy Walker, was in 10th at the mile mark, with Lillie Marcos about 15 seconds behind her.  Walker got competitive after that, and when the runners emerged from the woods, she was in 4th place and passed into 3rd with a quarter mile to go, finishing with her PR on Millbrook's course by 30 seconds. Marcos stayed steady, finishing in 14th with a negative split on her final mile, her racing form looking the best it has since her injury. While Lillie Powers, Mattie Lewis, and Pam Ngyuen did not quite hit their goals for the day, each accomplished some good things in the race.  The team races at the girls' invitational at Westover School this Wednesday, and all are looking forward to a bigger racing field and a different course to push them to improvement.
