an off day

In a contest between two undefeated teams, the Mustangs came out on the losing end yesterday against a very powerful Berkshire side. Although the outcome looks lop-sided, the stats suggest a pretty even game in every category except goals. Once again, the back four played exceedingly well, and the team held the Bears at bay for the first half hour.

A well-constructed goal and another mystery penalty kick put us down by two at the half. The boys rallied after the break, played with enthusiasm and had their chances to score. Bouda was denied on several occasions by Berkshire’s strong keeper. One of our notable chances was a screamer through the box which found DeStazio’s foot but not the back of the net. On a damp, overcast evening, the game had to be called before full time on account of darkness. It was not the outcome or finish we had hoped for.

Defensive standouts include Conte and Darmon, each of whom played in several spots as we scrambled to meet the Berkshire challenge. Peters, Simons and Jones came off the bench and contributed well. Stark and Rayman were strong up top. And, Oberfeld was remarkable, standing on his head to make save after save. For his efforts he was awarded the coaches’ card for excellence.
