Mustangs Compete in Fitch's Corner Horse Trials

Four Mustangs, Izzy Finemore ’21, Josephine Duggan ’22, Lizzie Chamberlin ’19, and alumna Anna Duggan ’17, competed at the Fitch’s Corner Horse Trials this past weekend.

Finemore ’21 placed first and Duggan ’22 placed sixth in junior training, and Chamberlin ’19 and Duggan ’17 competed in junior training and novice horse respectively.

The 2018 Fitch’s Corner Horse Trials marked the 25th anniversary of the horse and pony competition. The elegant setting, challenging courses, and a wide array of associated activities attract both amateur and Olympic competitors, and Millbrook was thrilled to have Mustangs participate and place at the event.

Millbrook riders compete year-long, even when school is not in session, and many students return to the Hudson Valley for events throughout the summer. Millbrook is in the heart of the Hudson Valley's “horse country,” and with vast landscapes of rolling hills, open spaces, and equine estates, our location provides unique opportunities for student activities and for horseback riding, in particular.

Our horseback riding program, an alternative to a team sport in the fall and spring, is flourishing. Millbrook students ride at Kildare Stables, a five-minute drive from campus, where students are taught by staff dedicated to high-level riders. Some students opt to ride at a variety of other local stables, including Coole Park, located on property adjacent to Millbrook School.

A handful of Millbrook riders, including Izzy Finemore ’21, Anna and Josephine Duggan ’17 ’22, and Lizzie Chamberlin ’19, will also compete in the upcoming Millbrook Horse Trials, which will commence at Coole Park from August 2-5.

Congratulations to all four Mustangs, and we look forward to following their continued success in August!
