Multiple Mustang Teams to Compete in New Englands

Girls varsity softball, boys varsity tennis, and boys and girls track and field will compete in New Englands this weekend.

Boys Varsity Tennis
Boys varsity tennis will compete against Storm King School in the New England Class C Tournament tomorrow, May 19th, at home at 9:30 a.m. It has been a strong season for tennis, with the boys defeating Storm King in their season opener with a final score of 6-1, and shutting out Berkshire, Canterbury, and Gunnery throughout.

"We are thrilled to have qualified for the New England Championships and the team is excited and ready to compete. I am proud of our boys," said Head Boys Varsity Tennis Coach Greg Reiss.

Girls Varsity Softball
Girls varsity softball defeated Westover, Gunnery, Kent, Greenwich Academy, and Forman throughout the season, bringing their overall record to 5-4. Softball will travel to St. Lukes's to compete against Forman in the New England Class C Semi-Finals at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 20th.

"Our VIth formers have illustrated leadership throughout the season and all of our players have stepped up big in terms of stepping into new positions and getting timely hits," said Head Softball Coach Lindsay Peterson.

Vith formers Riley Croghan '18 and Jessie Foote '18 both had impressive seasons. Croghan '18 was a force both on the mound and at bat, throwing 75 strikeouts and hitting 4 home runs. Foote '18 stepped up in the catcher’s position, throwing out many opponents trying to steal a base.

"We also have four players hitting over .400, which is great. We are proud of how this group has responded to adversity and how they have worked as a team all the way through," said Coach Peterson.

Track & Field
Eight Mustangs qualified to compete in the Division III championships and will travel to Bath, ME on Sunday, May 20th to represent Millbrook.

"Ousseni Bouda '19 has had a terrific season as a jumper and a sprinter, as he has improved his times and long jump distances tremendously since he started competing two years ago," said Co-Track and Field Coach Jason Goodwin. "Adelaide Armah '19 will compete in the long jump and triple jump. She has also had a great season."

We are also excited to follow India Patterson '18, a four-year varsity letter competitor for track in the long jump and the 200-meter dash. "She has shown significant growth as a runner and jumper," said Coach Goodwin.

VIth formers Uni Hunte '18 and Lily Lazarus '18 will also be representing Millbrook, competing in the hurdling and jumping events and long distance races respectively.

Gabby Sartori '18, India Patterson '18, Adelaide Armah '19, and Suwaiba Mohammed '19 will all compete in the 4 x 100-meter relay.

Finally, Suwaibatu Mohammed '19 will be competing in multiple sprinting events. She has yet to lose in the 100-meter run this season and came in second only one time in the 200-meter run. Kazuki Unayama '18 will be wrapping up his athletic career at Millbrook as an accomplished athlete. "He is set to compete in the long-distance events (1500-meter and 3000-meter run) in a very competitive field. He has been important to the success of the track and cross country programs, and he will be missed dearly after this weekend," said Coach Goodwin.

All teams and athletes have shown conquest and character and we look forward to cheering them on as they compete at the championship level. GO MUSTANGS!
