Home Run Season-openers for Baseball & Softball
Boys varsity baseball had a strong start to the spring athletic season, earning a definitive 8-1 victory over St. Luke's. The Mustang offense showed prowess early on, plating five runs while sending all nine batters to base in the first inning. The outburst was highlighted by RBI doubles from Luke Shliger '20 and JonJon Conahan '18. Andrew Matthews '18 maintained the momentum until the end, striking out 17 batters.
Softball was also victorious in their first game of the season, defeating Greenwich Academy with a final score of 23-5. The Mustangs came out swinging, plating eight batters in the top of the first. Captain Riley Croghan '18 held Greenwich scoreless until the fourth and struck out 10 in six innings. After allowing four runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the game, the Mustangs came roaring back in the top of the sixth with 10 runs and ended the game by holding Greenwich scoreless in the bottom of the inning. Croghan '18 had five RBI for the afternoon, while Jackie Crowley ‘20 added four, and Emma Gotthelf ‘19 had three. In all, eight Mustangs had at least one RBI.
