Squash Claims Two Championship Titles in One Weekend
The Mustangs had a victorious weekend, with both the boys and girls varsity squash teams taking first place in the New England Championships.
The boys traveled to Moses Brown School in Providence, RI, to compete in the New England Class B Championship. Sixteen schools were represented, and the Mustangs started strong on Friday evening, sweeping all seven matches without dropping a game.
"Highlights included Bud’s spectacular come-from-behind fifth game 18-16 win versus Suffield, and Sam’s 3-2 win in the first round of the plate division," said Coach Reiss. "Isaiah defeated Kent with a score of 3-1, giving him first place; and Rjay also played a final and earned first place. Everyone contributed and played exceptional squash, I could not be more proud of this team."
The girls varsity squash team also played with conquest and character throughout the weekend. In addition to winning the team event, Lizzie Carter '18 and Maggie McManus '18 were New England Champions in their respective flights, and Ena Cheng '18 and Emily Le '18 were flight finalists.
"We edged BBN 58-56 for the championship, so everyone had to play well and contribute," said Coach Powers. "I am so proud of how these girls competed this weekend, as well as how they have supported each other throughout the entire season."
Both teams brought consistent effort and exceptional skill to the courts, resulting in the Mustangs earning two prestigious championship titles in one weekend.
"I was impressed with the level of play over this past weekend," said Athletic Director Brian Krauss. "I appreciate the time and effort they have put into their craft, and I am so proud of what they have accomplished," he said.
Congratulations to both teams, and GO MUSTANGS!
