Tri match Split at Home

The team hosted a tri match today with Salisbury and Avon. Salisbury was up first and it went as expected as this was a rematch from December. The Salisbury team was gracious and well coached but the home team swept all matches 3-0, except for Dylan at #4 who needed 4 games but also had the only bagel.
Avon was up next and the boys knew they would have their hands full as this was the #2 ranked team in the league next to Brunswick. Isaiah played outstanding squash against the former #1 Avon player keeping it close 9,12 and 8 as did Teddy at #6,  9,7 and 10 but along with Dylan's 3 game loss, the team was down 3-0 at the turn. Bud had a terrific match at #7 winning in 3 straight while Sam at #5 kept it close in the first game but also lost in 3.  Yassin at #1 put forth a heroic effort against one of the best players in the league, Will Curtis, but dropped a close one (12)8,11,7.
Rjay at #3 had the match of his career against a 5.5 rated player who is the 1st seed in the A's New Englands. Rjay is a 4.4 and this should not have been even close but Rjay rose to a new level of squash that we haven't ever seen before. His speed and agility combined with constant volleying pressure confounded his opponent throughout this marathon match. His incredible focus and determination brought him all the way to match ball in the 5th game, up 10-8. One more point and Jack will have slayed the giant, but it wasn't to be. Rjay needed to default from exhaustion, leaving the court and collapsing. Such an amazing display of sheer will I have never seen.  Although the final was 6-1 to Avon the real story was how close this match really was, which all bodes well for our chances in the B's at New Englands this weekend.  Tp on Wednesday.
