Short-handed, but not short of effort in a tough loss

Coach Powers
Back and forth matches, big comebacks and gritty effort characterized our Wednesday match against Ethel Walker.  Ena Cheng moved to #3 with Lizzie Carter ailing and proved up to the task, dispatching her opponent in straight games.  Similarly, Maggia McManus used her great depth to win at #4, also in straight games.  Emily Le, playing #5, dropped one game but came roaring back to break the spriit of her opponent in 4.  Cici Wang, at #7, battled hard, taking a long second game, but lost in 4.  Zoe Acord faced a tough serve and lost at #6.  The matches of the day were at #1+2.  Olivia Garip-Davies faced a hard hitting opponent, dropped the first two before securing the third game, but her opponent had an answer and closed out the match.  Captain Ava Quarataro showed great grit after dropping the first two games.  She won the next two and was a couple of bounces away from stealing the win, but lost in a tight fifth game.  At exhibition, Claire Reid won two matches without dropping a game, as did Olivia Tutino.  Also, Cici Wang played one exhibition and won in staright games.
We look forward to getting another shot at Walkers in February!
