Mustangs Overcome by Pomfret in Championship, Finish Second

Colin Brown
The Mustrangs traveled into Connecticut for their third bout against the Pomfret Griffins this year in the hopes of bringing home a league championship. They fell to the Griffins 44-20, finishing second in the NE8 league.
The Mustangs got off to a slow start on Saturday -- their first offensive drive stalled out and Pomfret answered with a score putting Millbrook down 8-0 in the first quarter. Millbrook battled back, though, behind the Power I offense led by HB Carter Begel '18 and QB Jake Talhami '18. Both scored touchdowns to bring the tally to 8-12 in Millbrook's favor. Pomfret scored again going into halftime to take the lead at 20-12.

The second half proved to be quite different from the first as Pomfret scored a handful of touchdowns right off the bat, putting Millbrook in a nearly insurmountable hole. However, they continued to fight for yards and first downs and put the ball in the endzone in the middle of the fourth quarter. They converted the extra point to bring the final score to 44 - 20. Pomfret took home the league championship finishing at a perfect 7-0. The Mustangs finished at 3-4 (3-3 in the regular season). Despite the outcome, the Mustangs, their parents, and the coaching staff are all incredibly proud of their second place league finish this year. Only 302 days until the begining of next season!!
