Millbrook Defeats Gunnery, Finishes Second Place in NE8 League

Colin Brown
Millbrook routed Gunnery on Saturday, holding them scoreless through the first half while tallying 34 of their own. Everyone was able to get on the field in the second half and many of the younger players were able to contribute on both sides of the ball.

Defensive highlights included sacks by Liam Piper '21, Ryan Davis '19, Chris Randolph '19, and Ian Devine '19, including a strip sack by Randolph recovered by Piper.  Joe Rotarius '18, Sam Smith '21, and Davis added interceptions on the day. Gunnery attempted to spread the field in the first half and use their height advantage on the edge versus the shorter Millbrook defensive backs. This quickly proved fruitless as Rotarius and Smith each recorded 3+ pass breakups. Devine played a stellar game at MLB, holding the scrambling Gunnery QB to only a handful of yards on the ground.

On offense, Carter Begel '18 took two runs to the endzone with Piper adding one on a fullback dive in the second half. Quarterback Jake Talhami '18 threw for two touchdowns to his tight ends Ryan Davis '19 and Will Isler '19 who proved unstoppable in the passing game.

This win puts Millbrook at 3-3 on the season and lands them at a solid second place league finish. They will face off against the number one ranked Pomfret Griffins on 11/11 to close out the season. Location TBD.
