Mustangs of the Week - October 16, 2017

Football, Joe Rotarius '18
Joe exemplified the spirit of a Mustang in last Saturday’s game against Pomfret. Despite the tough loss, Joe did not waver in his level of play, enthusiasm, leadership, or determination during the entire game. His positive attitude rubbed off on his teammates, keeping Millbrook in the game when Pomfret was leading by three touchdowns in the fourth quarter. On offense, Joe made a number of key pass receptions and on defense, a key tackle limiting Pomfret on a play near the Millbrook goal line. Joe was a key part of the end of the game comeback attempt where he scored on a long touchdown reception. Joe’s play and leadership helped the Mustangs deliver a valiant effort, which closed the score to within 10 points.

Girls Varsity Soccer, Anni Elwell '18
In the last two games, Anni has been a huge asset in our transition game, helping move the ball from our defensive third into our opponents defensive third. Anni has shown a great deal of improvement in this area, as her skill level has continue to develop. With the team entering the second half of the season, she will continue to play a big role in the team’s overall success.

Boys Cross Country, Fenway Powers '21
Fenway consistently comes to practice with a strong work ethic and a positive attitude. He has been a dedicated team member and has shown good sportsmanship as well. In the last two weeks, he has role modeled hard work, kindness, and determination; both in practices and in meets.

Girls Cross Country, Anna Wilson '21
Anna showed her speed last week, and more importantly, she committed to competing. She led the team through our interval training in Tuesday’s workout, and finished in the top five as a member of Millbrook’s co-ed squad in the race against Rumsey, Indian Mountain, and Dutchess Day on Wednesday. She also left everything out on the course in Saturday’s race at Hotchkiss, finishing in 12th place in 24:09, after the best sprint finish in recent memory. Great work from Anna this week bodes well for the rest of her, and the team’s, season.

Varsity Field Hockey, Caroline Hopkins '21
Caroline had two goals in Millbrook’s game against Westover on Saturday, helping bring the team to a 3-0 victory! Caroline brings a great attitude to practice, and hustles in every play, drill, and game.

Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Sam Jones '20
Sam shows up for every game ready to play and puts his heart into it. He is taking his role as captain seriously, and keeping the team on top of things. Well done, Sam!

Junior Varsity Field Hockey, Mattie Lewis '21
Mattie has been working very hard in practice and games and has improved her field hockey skills tremendously. We are so happy to have Mattie join field hockey this year!
