Mustangs of the Week - October 2, 2017

Girls Varsity Soccer, Suwaibatu Mohammed '19
With her lightning speed, and exceptional ball skill, Suwaibatu had her way with The Gunnery as she scored 4 goals and assisted on another. She was a force on the field, and we look forward to watching her throughout the season.

Football, Carter Begel '18

In an exciting game against Gunnery last Saturday, Carter clearly demonstrated the virtues of a Millbrook Mustang. His leadership, skill, and relentless effort, regardless of his physical exhaustion later in the game, were truly exemplary. He scored most of the points in Millbrook’s 32-22 win, and played all but a few plays in the entire game. On one play where he carried the ball 30 yards for a touchdown, he broke numerous tackle attempts by Gunnery and appeared to carry a defender over the goal line along with the football. He also successfully beat Gunnery defenders to score another touchdown on a punt return for about 50 yards by skillfully evading tackle attempts. On defense, his outstanding play resulted in numerous losses for the Gunnery offense, being credited for a number of tackles or forcing tackles in the Gunnery backfield. Carter’s skill in play and his leadership have earned the respect of his teammates who have elected him to be one of the team captains this season. Well done, Carter!

Varsity Field Hockey, Riley Crohghan '17
Riley has been an anchor for Millbrook’s defensive unit since day one. She is a reliable teammate who can be counted on to do her job, regardless of where you put her on the field. She plays where she is needed with confidence and consistency. Her ability to make big stops in the midfield was instrumental this past week.

Boys Cross Country, Chris Wilkens '18
Chris has been a strong leader on the boys cross country team. He has been supportive and hardworking, with high expectations for himself and his peers. In the last few weeks, he has helped the captains become a strong, vocal leadership presence at practices, and has also helped the team to gel into a cohesive group. Chris has been willing to push the team to achieve their goals and has not hesitated to hold team members accountable when the need has arisen. Overall, Chris has consistently led by example in the way he has shown up to practice and in the effort he has been putting into his role on the team.

Girls Cross Country, Raphaella Pope '19
Raphaella brought great spirit and hard work to our training this week. In our race against Gunnery and Hoosac on Wednesday, she made a move on the downhill around the second mile in order to pass several girls and cement our win. Great work, Raph!

Boys Junior Varsity Soccer, Justinas Norkus '20
Justinas comes to play every day, and he scored three goals for the Mustangs last week. Well done, Justinas!

Junior Varsity Field Hockey, Jess Piard '21
Jess is new to field hockey, but throws herself enthusiastically into every game. Last week she did a particularly great job of moving the ball up the wings when we needed it. Keep up the good work, Jess!
