Mustangs Defeat The Gunnery in First Football Game of the Season

Millbrook's football team proved to be a formidable force this past Saturday, beating defending league champion, The Gunnery, in the first game of the season.

It was an exciting event, with the Mustangs coming back from a 14-point deficit in the second half of the game. In a display of grace, grit, and determination, Millbrook's defense prevented further points by The Gunnery and the offense put up 24 points, making the final score 32-22.

Joe Rotarius '18 and Mike Nassif '20 both had interceptions in the second half, including a one-handed diving grab by Nassif '20 to end a drive by Gunnery’s offense. The unending pressure from Ryan Davis '19, Chris Randolph '19, Ian Devine '19, Will Isler '19, Will Piper '21, and Jack Linnartz '21, all part of the defensive line rotation, proved insurmountable for the Gunnery offense. Stalwarts for the defense at the second level were Carter Begel '18 and Mike Nassif '20, as both were essential as run-stoppers and blitzers against the pass, tallying upwards of 20 tackles between them.

Carter Begel '18 also broke several long runs, including a 40-yard touchdown. Both Mike Nassif '20 and Jake Talhami '18 also added to the point total.

With this well-deserved victory and strong start to the season under their belts, the Mustangs are now preparing for their upcoming game against Forman, which will be on Saturday, October 10th.

Go Mustangs!
