Bearcats Clawed Their Way For Win

Gordie MacKenzie
On a hot, blistering Monday afternoon, the Lady Mustangs played host to the visiting Bearcats of Lakeville. This game has traditionally been a fiece battle, and today seemed to be no different. With terrific fan support along the sidelines, both teams came out early to establish their game, and each team had early looks. The backline for Millbrook, Lizzy Cater '18, Emily Cumming '18, Adelaide Armah '19, and Hannah Cavanaugh '18 did well to stifel any threat Hotchkiss could throw at them; keeper, Elise Almgren '19 did her job of not letting the ball behind her. However, with mounting pressure by the Bearcats, it would only be a matter of time before one would squeak past Almgren. At 26:15, Hotchkiss would strike first. The lead did not last long when Suwaibatu Mohammed '19 blocked a clearing ball, and found herself all alone with Hotchkiss's keeper - a neatly placed ball under the challenging keeper tied the game at 1-1; the first half would end with both teams still in a stalemate.

The second half was not much different than the first as Hotchkiss had greater possession of the ball than Millbrook. But to Millbrook's credit, the girls did not give up.  The midfield group of Gabby Satori '18, Bailey Tymeson '19, Greta Garschagen '19, and new comers Carolyn Whitney '19 and Alessandra Grendene '18 were dogged as they worked hard in the transition game. Midway through the 2nd half, Hotchkiss would get the go ahead goal, and then added 2 long range bombs which nipped the underside the of the crossbar to seal the deal.

The Lady Mustangs showed some improvement, and with a couple fo tweats tomorrow, the girls look forward to their first Class C opponent of the season on Wednesday, The Gunnery.
