Boys Cross Country Team Earns First Place in First Race of the Season

Millbrook's boys cross-country team showed an impressive outing in the first race of the season at the Canterbury Invitational, with Kazuki Unayama '18 winning the Division II race individually, and the Mustangs earning the overall win as well.

"Every runner put in a team effort," said Coach Nathan Meltzer. "The team was led by co-captain Kazuki '18, who paced himself well and showed incredible determination during the race."

After battling with a runner from Chase Collegiate School for the majority of the race, Kazuki '18 gave a strong final push for a definitive win, with a time of 17:23. His fellow Mustangs were not far behind, with Mateo Winogrand '19 coming in at 13th place, Sam Iacavazzi '18 finishing 26th, co-captain Chris Wilkins '18 finishing in 33rd place, and David Nesterov-Rappoport '18 finishing in 38th place. Jayden Reeves '19 and co-captain Henry Schulz '18 ran much of the race together, often passing opponents as a team, and finishing in 54th and 57th place respectively.

The girls cross country team also ran a strong race. Led by co-captain Kerry Carr '18, Millbrook's girls cross country team finished 5th overall out of of 16 teams in the Division II race at the Canterbury Invitational. Carr '18 held back in her first mile and was in 13th place for much of the race, blasting past four runners in the final 400 meters to place 9th overall. Ella Horn '18 and co-captain Lillie Marcos '19 formed an effective partnership throughout the race, working together to pass runners ahead of them, and finishing in 30th and 31st place respectively. Raphaella Pope '19 sprinted in the second half of the race to 53rd place overall.

Congratulations to our Mustangs on their strong performances and multiple wins!
