Mustangs Begin 2017 Season With a Draw

Gordie MacKenzie
The Lady Mustangs boarded the busses this afternoon and headed to Suffield, CT. to take on the tigers of Suffield Academy.  Millbrook started the game well as they worked the ball through the middle third but Suffield's defensive line held strong.  Midway through the half, Suffield settled down, and began to dominate the play as they put the pressure on Millbrook's backline (Lizzie Carter '18, Emily Cumming '18, Adelaide Armah '19 and Greta Garshagen '18).  Fortunately Millbrook's keeper, Elise Almgren '20, did her part to keep the ball out of the net.  The first half ended 0-0.

With the start of the second half, Millbrook looked to regain the rythum they had at the start of the game.  Both teams would battle back and forth but neither one get on the score board first.  Then at 27:16, Grace Casco received a backpass from Izzy Lussier, and placed the ball into the side netting on the backpost side.  Suffield would hold the lead until Millbrook was awarded a corner kick at the 15:00 mark.  Third year player, Suwaibatu Mohammed '19, served the ball to first year player, Jalia Musah '21, who absolutely smashed the ball into the back of the net for the tying strike.  Both teams would have a couple more looks, but time would run out in the end.

Almgren: 6 saves on 7 shots.
