Millbrook Graduates Class of 2017 in 86th Commencement

In a celebration of growth, success, community, and tradition, hundreds of friends and family joined us on the Flagler Quad for Commencement activities. The weekend was both emotional and celebratory as the Class of 2017 bid farewell to Millbrook.

Commencement festivities began on Saturday evening, as VIth formers were joined by their parents and advisors for the traditional Senior Dinner. The dinner was hosted in our new 12,000 square foot dining hall. The grand 23-foot ceilings, traditional aesthetic, and floor-to-ceiling windows, provided a spectacular backdrop against which we celebrated our VIth formers.

After Senior Dinner, everyone gathered under the main tent on the Flagler Quad for Prize Night, and our graduates were recognized for outstanding achievement in all areas of school life.

The Millbrook community gathered the following Sunday morning to celebrate the Class of 2017. Carolina A. Wamsler, PhD '87, Millbrook board member and alumna, welcomed the graduates, underform students, faculty, and families.

Jean-Pierre Conte, father of William Conte '17, gave the Commencement Address, which was rich in advice for our new graduates. “You only grow when you are uncomfortable,” said Mr. Conte, who encouraged students to take risks and stay humble.

The VIth formers elected classmate Benjamin Berg to deliver this year's VIth Form Commencement Address. He reflected on his time at Millbrook, the lessons he learned, and the people who shaped his Millbrook experience.

"There are too many wonderful, caring, and attentive people to count," Berg said of Millbrook. He went on to urge his classmates to remember the impact that Millbrook has had on their lives and to carry lessons learned with them as they embark on their post-Millbrook journeys. “This is dawning of the rest of our lives."

Following Ben's address, Headmaster Drew Casertano presented three special commencement prizes: the Sportsmanship Cup was awarded to Olivia May, the Community Service Cup was presented to Thomas Denney, Olivia May, and Valerie Tan, and Valerie Tan also earned Summa Cum Laude.

Immediately following the conclusion of the commencement ceremony, students and faculty exchanged words, hugs, handshakes, and emotion, as graduates officially concluded their Millbrook careers to begin the next chapter of their lives.

Congratulations to the Class of 2017!
