Captivating Performances Abound in Millbrook's Fall Play: Our Town

Millbrook students presented a captivating performance of this year's fall play, Our Town, by Thorton Wilder. The play debuted on November 10th and ran through November 12th.

Thought by many as one of the finest American plays ever written, this classic resonates with modern audiences today just as it did when it was first performed in 1938. The Pulitzer Prize winning classic chronicles the life of close-knit families and reveals the universal truths that connect us all. It paints an intimate portrait of the beauty and wonder of small town life, as audience members follow the Webb and Gibbs families through their fictional New England town, Grover's Corners.

Director of Theater Elaine Lifter thoughtfully chose Our Town because of its connection with this year's academic spotlight: stewardship of the natural world. Keeping this in mind, students participating in the play prepared for their performance not only through rehearsals, but also through reflections tinted by Wilder's lens: how do we care for our world, ourselves, and others.

Students spent months developing their acting, working on the set, and choosing lighting and sound for the show.

"This year we used a painted tarp to cover the stage floor, which is the first time this has been done in the history of the Chelsea Morrison Theater," said Elaine Lifter.

Our students' hard work was evident, and everyone who attended left with high enthusiasm, including Headmaster Drew Casertano:

"The set and lighting were imaginative and the acting skilled. I was so impressed," he said.
