Experiential Learning in Cambodia

Students and faculty left on June 22, for a fifteen-day journey to explore Cambodia and its emerging cultural renaissance through meaningful exchanges with local people.

The trip is offering an unusual in-depth introduction to Cambodian life and culture through the lens of their living arts, historical landmarks, and local people.

In less than a week, Millbrook students and faculty have visited Angor Wat, visited with local Cambodian children, musicians, and artists and also explored Bakong Temple, among other exciting adventures.

The trip also aligns with the 2015-2016 academic year community spotlight: service for social justice. During the year students were required to read Never Fall Down by Patricia McCormick, which recounts Human Rights Activist Arn Chorn-Pond’s experience during the Pol Pot regime, and his time at the Wat Ek Phnom prison camp, where he was sent in 1975 when the Khmer Rouge came into power in Cambodia. Mr. Chorn-Pond visited Mlllbrook in April and addressed students about his experiences and the importance of helping others.

Throughout the next few days students will continue to visit landmarks and museums and meet with local people.

Visit Millbrook's blog to read more about our students' daily experiences and reflections, and stay tuned for more updates and photos, which will be posted to our website!
