Millbrook Students Dive Into Science in the Bahamas

Eleven students and three faculty members have ventured to The Island School in the Bahamas for a hands-on learning experience.

Science Department faculty member Chrissy Dilley brought this opportunity to Millbrook after attending a conference at The Island School.

“Last summer I spent a week at a teacher’s conference at The Island School, and I was able to work with the researchers in the area. I was so inspired by the environment and their passion, and I knew that I needed to bring Millbrook students back with me,” said Mrs. Dilley.

By traveling to an area that has a tropical ecosystem, students are able to apply the science skills they learned at Millbrook while exploring new areas of biology and ecology. In their first two days on the island of Eleuthera, Millbrook students went scuba diving to study the ecology of reefs, dissected and learned about Lionfish, studied tropical ecosystems, and much more.

They have also been working in the field with professional researchers, and this experience has exposed them to real-world and professional scientific application of their Millbrook studies.

The faculty and students on the trip are sharing their daily adventures on our blog. Be sure to follow their posts there for more updates and stay tuned for photos from their trip, which will be posted to our photo gallery upon their return.
