When Bob Anthony was a student at Millbrook, “The Boss” was finishing up his final year as the founding headmaster; they became fast friends until Mr. Pulling’s death thirty-six years later. It was no wonder that Mr. Anthony came back to Millbrook (after graduating from Colby College and working for a short time for the New York Mets) to become director of development in 1974, and he has kept the school coffers filled and alumni well-informed since then.
Here are some vital Millbrook statistics Mr. Anthony has accumulated in his nearly 50 years at Millbrook: Amount of money he has helped to raise: $150 million plus Number of advisees advised: at least 150 Percent of the alumni body he has come to know personally: at least 75% Millbrook headmasters known well: ALL
Mr. Anthony and his wife, Ann, raised their three children - Arthur '07, Mimi '08, and Sarah '12 - in Abbott House, and he now resides in New York City. He continues to work regularly on campus and travels extensively to meet with alumni. In addition to all he has done professionally, Mr. Anthony also serves in several unofficial capacities - school historian and preserver of traditions. It’s hard to judge whether these or his many professional contributions have been more valued.
A longtime neighbor and friend, Nancy Stahl joined Millbrook in the fall of 2007 as the Major Gifts Officer, spending most of her time traveling for Millbrook as an advocate for the school's annual and capital campaigns as she assumed the role of director of advancement and now director of stewardship.
A graduate of Purnell School and of Hollins College, Mrs. Stahl is a veteran of the independent school world with many years of service on the boards (and serving as chair) of both Purnell and Dutchess Day School. In addition, she has had long associations as either a board member or board chair of The Boys Club of New York, the Freedom Institute (NY), and the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation (Great Barrington, MA).
Mrs. Stahl lives with her husband, Bill, in nearby horse country – a significant fact because she did hold the role for a number of years as joint master of the Millbrook Hunt.
